London-based twin brothers Youthfall step things up with this brand new swaggering late-night beauty ‘Secular Child’. Bliss.

Kindness:

Been waiting for the return of the enigmatic Kindness for a while now, just like the dudes over at Transparent. Now he re-emerges once again with a super funky cut called ‘Cyan’, all blown-out bass guitar and shakers. Doesn’t disappoint at all. Debut release on his own ‘Female Energy’ label come October.

The bros at Tough Love Records have done it again, another special release from a very special band, this time a 7” from Weird Dreams. The guys have been busy recording brand new material and what I’ve heard of it has blown me away, ‘Holding Nails’ being the perfect example of their superior songwriting.

Frank Ocean:

Frank Ocean drops two new videos in as many days, the first of which (above) is for one of his newest songs ‘Thinking About You’.

It’s a beguiling visual narrative for some seriously cinematic sounds, further evidence that Ocean can match the hype brought about by his ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’ mixtape. Just listen to the croon “Or do you not think so far ahead? ‘Cause I’ve been thinking ‘bout forever..”. Damn.

Second, and long overdue, is this video for the killer ‘Swim Good’ below. Song of the year?

Mount Kimbie:

Final single from Mount Kimbie’s debut album ‘Crooks & Lovers’, a pretty much untouchable LP. London peeps will recognise many of the locations.

London’s Merok Records put their name to yet another strong release following on close from picking up an EP with Depford Goth. This time it’s this shimmying wunderkind ‘Black Cloud’ from the Lake District’s very own Mozart Parties. 7” drops October 31st. Get it here.

Seriously hung up on these sultry R’n’B-isms from London’s Palmistry right now. Just check the sensational ‘Black Creps’ above.

Hard to listen to a few of the newer tracks and not hear the likes of The Weeknd, but dig deeper and there is a definite UK touch to things. Check the more dubbed out ‘Kundalani Rising’ for reference or the positively monastic Breathe Dagga/Until/Funeral Ikos.

Some events are just too great to ever process fully.

Ariel Pink began writing this song 10 years ago today. The result is this 16 minute journey, an indirect comment on time past. In some ways it feels like a song that doesn’t need an end, an ever-present backdrop to life, different every time it’s played.

No word on a vinyl release yet, but get it digitally now on 4AD.

Radiant Dragon:

Radiant Dragon’s video for ‘Terminal’, a new song from forthcoming LP ‘Screengazers’, brings a suitably intergalactic feel to things, apparently inspired by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and riffing nicely on 2001: A Space Odyssey.
